Why do tulips droop

There is nothing that can cheer up a room more than a bunch or two of fresh tulips. Follow these simple steps for a lovely and long-lasting arrangement. Begin with a vessel filled with cool water, sharp scissors, and a large bunch of tulips. I bought two bunches of tulips for a total of 20 stems. Separate the tulips and remove any damaged or large outer leaves. One at a time, gather the tulip stems in one hand, making sure the blooms are as even as possible. Holding tightly to the tulips stems with one hand, carefully cut all the stems evenly.

I have large hands, and as you can see, it was all I could do to keep the tulips together. Just make sure the stems of both bunches are the same length. All at once, set the group of stems into your vessel. Make sure the ends of the stems are all the way to the bottom of your vessel. Let go of the stems and let the blooms fall naturally. At this point, you can carefully remove and reinsert stems so the arrangement is balanced in size and color. Your soil fertility also influences stem and foliage drooping.

In general, add organic matter to the soil to increase natural nutrient levels. With proper fertilizing and soil amendments, your tulips should not have any drooping problems.

Tulips naturally droop when the bulb has used all its available energy to produce flowers. Don't remove green leaves from the tulip so it can follow its natural life cycle. The leaves still perform photosynthesis to store energy in the bulb for next year.

Although you may remove the blossom portion of the plant, the leaves need to naturally droop and fall to the ground before you remove the leaves or dig the bulbs up. Tulips with fungal infections may droop. Like daffodils, amaryllis, hyacinths etc.

A good trick with tulips is also not cutting the stems diagonally. I was told by a florist that if you cut them diagonally I used to do it too , they start drooping but if you cut them just simply straight, they will stay straight in the vase. Hi, I tried poking a hole and my tulips woke up within an hour or less, though I cut the stem diagonally! Whats the logic? Thank You soo much for that tip —- I took them back to the store and requested my money back!

Well mine drooped something awful in a matter of a few hours! Just went and poked the hole for the air bubble, added a penny and ice to the water! Going to sleep and sure hope for resurrection tulips for Easter Sunday tomorrow!!!

Thanks for the info! Love the Internet! These tricks worked amazingly and the flowers look fabulous today!! Thank you! Thank you!! Recut the rose stems diagonally and stand them in one inch of boiling water for about 5 minutes. This removes air, increases water flow up the stem and the flower will revivie.
