Why is ephraim not mentioned in revelation

Notice something missing? Clearly, Dan was one of the twelve tribes of Israel , being one of the sons of Jacob, whose name was later changed to Israel. Why did the tribe of Dan disappear from the pages of Scripture, and never even mentioned in the New Testament, including in the Book of Revelation? After Israel had settled into the Promised Land, the Danites felt they got slighted in their inheritance Judges , which was not really true Joshua , 48 , and so they went seeking a city for their own and founded it, but on the ruins of a city they destroyed Judges Since the nation failed to repent, and there is no biblical record of what happened to the descendants of the Tribe of Dan.

When Israel split into two separate kingdoms, with the Northern Kingdom Israel with the ten tribes and Southern Kingdom, Judah Judah , Benjamin and Levites , the Southern Kingdom began to fall into idolatrous practices, which would be the beginning of the end for them.

Jeroboam was so worried about his residents going back to Jerusalem to worship in the temple he made his own worship places so that they could worship in the Southern Kingdom. They even offered sacrifices…but it was to no god at all.

Joseph , the youngest son of Jacob or Israel had a son, his eldest, named Manasseh, and so Joseph and Manasseh are listed with the tribes of Israel, but at the exclusion of Ephraim and Dan.

Ephraim had a history similar to the tribe of Dan , so they might be missing for the same reason. Their tribe may have even gone out of existence by now; perhaps both have. If you notice from Revelation above, not only is the tribe of Dan missing but so is the tribe of Ephraim. And he said unto his mother, The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from thee, about which thou cursedst, and spakest of also in mine ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it.

And when he had restored the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, his mother said, I had wholly dedicated the silver unto the LORD from my hand for my son, To make a graven image and a molten image : now therefore I will restore it unto thee.

Yet he restored the money unto his mother; and his mother took two hundred shekels of silver, and gave them to the founder, who made thereof a graven image and a molten image: and they were in the house of Micah.

And the man Micah had an house of gods , and made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest. In those days there was no king in Israel but every man did that which was right in his own eyes. And there was a young man out of Bethlehemjudah of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there.

And the man departed out of the city from Bethlehemjudah to sojourn where he could find a place : and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, as he journeyed. And Micah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by the year, and a suit of apparel, and thy victuals.

It was, however, a Jewish tradition that Dan was the most apostate tribe Aune , citing Str-B A common explanation for this omission is that the Antichrist would come from the tribe of Dan. This is a point which must be proven yet, but the observation is enough to make us wonder if the whole tribe is removed from the list because the Antichrist would come from it! Dan is also missing from the genealogies in 1 Chronicles This is a more significant observation for our problem in Revelation.

Perhaps the tribe of Dan failed to return from captivity and therefore lost its place in the tribes. In many prophetic passages, Ephraim becomes synonymous with the entire northern kingdom, especially in its idolatrous forms.

The book of Hosea in particular uses the tribe of Ephraim to describe the apostasy of the whole of the northern kingdom. So once again Revelation generates questions which may be impossible to answer with certainty. Perhaps the solution is as simple as the need to delete two tribes because Levi and Joseph were included. Reblogged this on Talmidimblogging. Reblogged this on James' Ramblings. Thanks, I really do appreciate the link. But now readers can follow the link and read your work for themselves.

I believe that the conclusion for the tribe being removed because of the reference to the anti-christ would make more sense than the idolatry suggestion. If Jesus was indeed going to strike down the anti-christ, then what good would it be for the anti-christ tribe reference to be listed as a tribe? Seems contradictive to me. Moreover, reading the other link to the PDF suggested above, it seems as if the common theme and conclusion of idolatry is not the only conclusion.

In the article, there are suggested names like Bar Kokhba, who was the Messiah of Ephraim, is to be defeated and will be surpassed by the Messiah of David. So, from reading both articles, there are more reasons than just the idea of the anti-christ and idolatry. It also, has to do with leaders and lines of leadership.

It is curious to me the connection between the idolatry in the tribe of Dan and the Antichrist. As we know from scripture, the antichrist is an idol for the people of the earth, a distraction from the truth.

It would make sense that the antichrist would come from the tribe of Dan if that is where the separated idolatry of Israel began. If it is meant that the antichrist is to come from that tribe, then that explains why the tribe is removed from the list of tribes.

I have never really been one to take a lot of time and concentrate on different tribes. I really appreciate seeing the break down of them from time to time. I find it interesting that Dan would not be talked about or mentioned.

We know that he is going to take people away from learning about Christ and cause them to stray away. Why this deviation from the standard Old Testament lists of the 12 tribes? The answers lie in understanding the Old Testament. According to the book of Judges, chapter 18, Dan was the first tribe to wholly embrace Baal worship pagan idolatry.

Being one of the 10 northern tribes, Dan was influential in polluting the Northern Kingdom with false religion. Remember, being the special priestly tribe, Levi was normally not mentioned when the 12 tribes were named in the Old Testament.

This division allowed Levi to be removed and yet Israel would still have 12 tribes for her army. Because the Danites are not part of the ,, thus causing the total to be 12, short, there are the 12, Levites to make up for the missing tribe of Dan. However, Ephraim is implied. Secondly, it is the only list to include Joseph in place of only one of his sons instead of both sons. Specifically, Joseph and Manasseh appear in the Revelation 7 list but Ephraim does not. Perhaps the exclusions of Dan and Ephraim are related?

Thirdly, the territories originally allotted to the tribes of Ephraim and Dan bordered one another in Canaan, but during the time of Judges Dan rejected its claim and moved north to occupy a part of the territory of Naphtali.

Finally, even though the name Joseph is listed in Revelation 7, no territory or tribe of Joseph actually exists. This raises the question how can there be 12, men from "Joseph" during Tribulation when no such tribe of people exists? Given these clues, we can offer speculation on why Dan and Ephraim are missing from the list.

In Judges we're given two stories of apostasy in Israel. Both stories center on the tribes of Dan and Ephraim and on the city of Bethlehem, the birthplace of David, God's choice for king over Israel. The writer of Judges emphasizes in these chapters that these were the days before Israel had a king.

In those chapters of Judges, Dan sinned by viewing the land God allotted to them as unacceptable, so they abandoned it.
