Can you become thane of riften

The jarl requires you to buy the house in town as well as completing a number of miscellaneous quests. Once this is achieved you can become Thane. In order to receive this quest you must first aid the current jarl, Laila Law-Giver or Maven Black-Briar , by dealing with the skooma trade in Riften.

Unlike in other holds, you must then complete three other Miscellaneous Quests in Riften, rather than completing five Favor Quests across the hold. Completion of miscellaneous quests in other Rift settlements does not count. Note that many of the quest givers are non-essential NPCs, so their deaths would result in a loss of potential quests to complete. If they die after you assist them, they still count towards your Thane status. Investing in Rift stores does not count for this Thaneship quest either.

You must also purchase Honeyside , which costs at least 5, gold see bugs. Simply purchasing it is enough, there is no requirement to decorate, although it becomes more useful if decorated. After completing the necessary quests and purchasing Honeyside , the journal tells you to return to the jarl. The reward, the Blade of the Rift , is a random, leveled, enchanted weapon. Despite its name, it can be nearly any weapon, including a non-bladed weapon like a Mace.

You will also receive a housecarl named Iona , who will be waiting for you at Honeyside. Jump to: navigation , search. This page is currently being rewritten as part of the Skyrim Quest Redesign Project. Ulfric Stormcloak will respond that there is a place in his court for a new Thane, but the title can only be given to one known throughout the hold and that owns property in Windhelm.

Regardless of the questline followed, there are two requirements to becoming Thane of Eastmarch:. While completing " Blood on the Ice " is not a prerequisite of becoming a Thane of Eastmarch, the quest will automatically start upon the purchase of Hjerim.

Also, if on the Legion's side in the Civil War , Brunwulf's bandit quest must be done to become a Thane anyway. There are many ways to become Thane as detailed in the section below. This is a set of steps you can take to become a Thane of Falkreath. If the Dragonborn waits to reach level 9 without visiting Falkreath, the Jarl will request to see them by sending a letter via courier.

The starting quest for the Jarl to obtain a drink is a "radiant" quest that cannot be started if the Dragonborn is already on one of the following quests considered to be part of "Rare Gifts. After getting his drink, the Jarl will give the Dragonborn a quest to kill a bandit leader in a radiant location.

Upon completing this objective, the offer of becoming a Thane will be made. Because Falkreath has the fewest citizen quests of any hold, and because the town is so open to dragon attacks, if the Dragonborn waits until the mid-game or endgame to become Thane, it can be difficult to find enough citizens alive to do three quests.

This becomes an even worse problem with Dawnguard installed, as citizens will also be attacked by vampires. Lod the blacksmith and Narri the tavern worker can be killed. Players can usually find the remaining quests they need by finding citizens who tend to stay inside buildings and by investing gold in Gray Pine Goods using the Investor Speech skill. The quest objective for the Jarl will be different depending on civil war quests. If the Hearthfire expansion is installed and enabled , the Dragonborn may receive a letter at any time early in their adventures from Siddgeir requesting a meeting at his longhouse in Falkreath.

If this is the case, if the Dragonborn goes to meet him, the first part of this quest will be skipped entirely in favor of the next part of the quest to become a Thane. The Jarl of Falkreath is added as a citizen so when the quest is started only two citizens need to be helped. Rewards for earning this title include the Blade of Falkreath , along with the standard Thane option for dealing with pursuing guards in the hold.

After completing the quest, talk to Falk again for a reward. Then speak directly to the Jarl herself and she will thank them and assign one more task. She will ask that Torygg's war horn be placed on a Shrine of Talos , as a tribute to her late husband.

Take the war horn to the specified Shrine and place it at the foot of the statue of Talos, then return to Elisif. She will invite the Dragonborn to become a Thane, but only after meeting the following requirements:. Sometime after Wolfskull Cave has been cleaned out and the Dragonborn has leveled up at least once, a courier arrives with a letter from Falk requesting a meeting.

Becoming Thane of Hjaalmarch is fairly straightforward. Investigating the house that burned down, then completing the subsequent quests, will cause the grateful Jarl to say that she would be happy to make the Dragonborn a Thane once "known through her Hold. Note that completing the quest " Laid to Rest " may count as one of these assistance quests. If the only reason for becoming Thane is to purchase the land for the Hearthfire DLC, it is not necessary to actually finish helping with the three tasks before being allowed to purchase the land.

Upon finding and speak to Aslfur , he may have a dialog option for buying a house, at which point he will say that while there are no houses available, he can sell some land.

The title also includes being awarded the Blade of Hjaalmarch. Similar to Falkreath, if this is attempted late in the game, it may be difficult to find three citizens alive to help, especially if Dawnguard is installed.

Unlike most Thane questlines, you will have to help 5 citizens that roam the city instead of the normal 3. Luckily, there are a large variety of citizens to help. Shadr is one of the easiest citizens to help, only needing you to talk to Sapphire. She is a member of the elusive Thieves Guild that needs to collect a debt from Shadr. If you can convince her to back off or pay off the debt, Shadr will be in your debt and help contribute to your Thane quest progress.

Hofgrir is a tough Nord that resides in the Riften Stables. Like most Nords, he believes that testing your muscles is the only way to live. Bet against Hofgrir that you can beat him in a brawl to get easy progression on your Thane quest. You need to bet gold and beat him in the brawl, which will only allow unarmed combat.

As long as you are wearing armor or have a large health pool, this brawl will be a cakewalk. Once finished, talk to Hofgrir to receive your gold and the ability to take any of his horses or items in the stable for free.

Balimund works at a forge in Riften, providing the player with an assortment of weapons and armor. His forge is dying, however, and requires Fire Salts to fuel. Ten Fire Salts are needed for Balimund to continue running his forge. Fire Salts are an uncommon item you can find in dungeons and as rare loot from Flame Atronachs.

To make this quest easier, you can find two Fire Salts at the Grave Concoctions in Falkreath, and you can also buy an Alchemy station for your home to receive a few Fire Salts. Keep me logged in on this device Forgot your username or password? Don't have an account? Sign up for free! How do I become Thane of Riften? I initiated the miscellaneous "Identify Riften's Skooma dealer" quest but can't seem to continue it.

I helped out the Argonian and gave her a health potion but she just gives me a diamond ring and walks away. In fact I can't engage in dialogue with her. She just blathers on about how nice it is to have the throne. And, of course, I am hours away from a save that can negate the effects of a completed Reunification quest line. In fact that save doesn't actually exist.

So, after this needlessly long set up, I was wondering if I cannot finish the quest, cannot become thane, and cannot get the housecarl for my Honeyside home.

Any help, or closure I guess, would be greatly appreciated.
