How does accenture use crowdsourcing

We have endeavoured to share the breadth and diversity of opportunity available in the crowdasset model and assist organisations to move to a more crowd enabled strategy. These ideas have often been considered unconventional at best and positively crazy at worst.

We have progressively developed the crowdasset model and the techniques associated with helping organisations to identify where these opportunities exist and how they can work to tap into them and integrate them strategically. The robustness of our models have allowed us to place all the emerging trends into the horizon of the crowdasset model. So crowdsourcing, crowdfunding, collaborative economy, prediction markets, viral communication, open sourcing, open innovation and many other potential crowdempowered approaches for commercial and civic application.

Recently we have seen Accenture and Deloitte , in their respective Technology Trends publications, highlighted crowdsourcing as a major emerging trend and point to some good examples of how firms like GE, BMW and Mastercard are entering this sector.

This is good to see and we welcome their adoption and championing of the vision and recommend a read of both of the reports. The reports are, perhaps understandably, approaching these opportunities from a technology led stand point. We see three forms of crowdsourcing that are very relevant for IT organisations to explore. The first is crowdcoding, where large tasks are broken down into sets of micro-tasks and farmed out to individuals to work on.

The second is crowdwisdom which leverages the crowd for ideation and innovation, and can be very useful to better understand customer expectations and preferences. The third form is crowdtesting, which uses freelancers to test software in real-world environments, especially digital and mobile applications. Crowdtesting is the most mature form among these, and is changing the way testing is done in technology, as it allows organisations to more easily onboard testers with specialised skills, user characteristics or geographic locations.

Standard activities Level 1 These typical crowdsourcing tasks include data collection or other tasks that need no specialized skills or knowledge. More sophisticated activities Level 2 These include merchandising tasks and the activities entail letting the store manager know that a person is being sent on behalf of the manufacturer.

Official activities Level 3 A crowdsourced resource is sent as official representative of the manufacturer to the store and it need more specialized expertise and some training. View All. View Less.

Crowdsourcing can help companies accomplish one-off activities over a wide geographic scale. One solution is to develop a firm-wide internal matching platform for staffing..

As of now, they have basic software that can assist with this undertaking, but it is still arbitrary and too reliant on human intervention. Interesting — I am wondering whether there is an opportunity for Consultancies such as Accenture to crowd-source externally not only leveraging that capability, but actually sourcing consulting talent ; similarly to HourlyNerd but in a more professional-network with additional curation.

So if Accenture builds this capability internally, they could prepare themselves better to shift to external crowdsourcing — if necessary. And possibly, look into disrupting their business model by serving lower-end consumers with a crowdsourced solution.
